How Japan’s Imperial Family Rose to Power
The Yamato clan was one among many in ancient Japan. Through a combination of political cunning and military ruthlessness, they arose to become the world's longest continuous Imperial Family, one that continues to this day.
This is also the beginning of the Kofun Period, where people built massive mound tombs for their dead leaders. These tombs were hundreds of meters long and required enormous manpower and years to build. The Yamato clan built a special type of kofun that other clans emulated.
