Japanese Description of the First Contact With Europeans from Teppo-ki
In 1543 two Portuguese traders arrived on a Chinese junk, with a gift that would change the course of Japanese history, the Teppo gun.
Recorded for posterity by Nanpo Bushi half a century later, this account gives us the view of a people coming into contact with Europe for the first time.
